Since I was planning to do a Philippine WW2 uniform impression, I decided to make it closer to home and re-interpret my grandfather's uniform when he was in the service. I asked my mom to dig up his old USAFFE papers and these are what I got: 1st Lt. Ildefonso Legaspi Martinez, 103rd Infantry Regiment, Lapham Guerillas, LGAF: Uploaded with ImageShack.usWhat was the type of hat he was wearing and what is that insignia on the crown? Here's a photo of the officers upon arrival in Tarlac. Unfortunately they were in civvies. My Grandpa is the 3rd chap kneeling from the left front. By cesarphotos at 2010-12-15 Here's his USAFFE ID Card: Uploaded with ImageShack.usNote: We have exactly the same height and weight, and his signature is exactly the same as my father's, who was a junior. I used to forge his signature on my absent slips in college, heh heh. Back of ID: By cesarphotos at 2010-12-15 His Veteran's card: Uploaded with ImageShack.usOath of Office document: By cesarphotos at 2010-12-15 Oath of Enlistment document: By cesarphotos at 2010-12-15 Finally, as a point of comparison, here's a family photo from around 1961. My dad on the right, mom on the left and little me in the center. My sister and brother have yet to be born: Uploaded with ImageShack.usSo, my questions: type of uniform, headgear, kit, shoes, weapon, and sidearm. Any comments and information would greatly be appreciated!

I think it is really great that you are doing a USAFFE impression of your veteran grandpa. There is a strand of historical continuity here as you honor his memory.

I'd like to give you one in his honor. If you are going to the christmas party at jmodeller's home then that would be a good opportunity for you to recieve it. All you will need now is a khaki pershing cap with brown leather visor and chinstrap to complete the impression. Regards

Hi Doc, thanks for sharing your Grandfathers very interesting Family heritage in 1942. Here's an enhanced image of your Grandfather: The Officers Hat badge would be commonwealth eagle since being inducted in 1942 His basic Officers uniform would be all khaki Tie, long sleeve shirt and trousers just like in the photo. I have seen photos of officers of Guerrila units that wore their khaki's. With Pistol belt and holsters. hope this helps. Philip
