Calling deutsche soldaten! I'm curious, what are each of these soldiers wearing? Are they SS or Heer?

All SS, from left to right:
SS Mann (private) Field grey basic wool uniform, worn with tarnjacke (smock) in rauchtarnmuster or blurred edge pattern. Same with the helmet cover, 2. Big guy, SS mann as well, wearing the same thing sans helmet, 3. SS Scharfuhrer or sturmscharfuhrer, seargent NCO, Dot 43-44 pattern pants, M 43 field grey wool jacket, M43 einheitsfeldmutze field cap. Standard leather infantry equipment straps and belt, MP 40 pouches and leather map case, 4. SS Mnn again, smock is rauchtarn or blurred edge pattern, helmet cover is in platanen or plane tree pattern, 5. SS untersturmfuhrer, lieutenant, Waering M43-44 dot pattern pants, M43 field grey tunic, Wound badge in black, infantry assault badge, iron cross 2nd and first class and knight's cross to the iron cross with oak leaves, side arm seems to be luger P08..gee upham's captured a hero there. All the men are wearing the mid to late war schnur schuhe half boots. seemingly without gaiters but with the issue socks rolled down over the boot tops. Typical SS mishmash of uniforms from 43-45.

The tall bald one will be dropped by Cpl. Oppem in a few seconds. He's the guy who killed the GI with a bayonet while Oppem stood cowering in the doorway. He should have kept his mouth shut. Judging by the camo and the buckles, they are probably SS. The rightmost soldat wears an officer's belt buckle, has 2 pips on his collar tabs and what appears to be a Knight's Cross aside from an Iron Cross First Class. I owe my info to labrador. I hope I got it right, heh heh.

There's some confusion as to the german characters in the movie. There are TWO tall bald germans. The first one "steamboat willie toot toot" is the one at the Machine gun nest below the wurzburg radar site that the men wanted to kill after he was captured. He was a regular Heer Man. The second one is the guy who got into a knife fight and killed mellish in romale. spielberg should have cast more different looking germans. Steam boat willie joined the attacking SS group as a straggler and was finally killed by upham.

They shouldn't have given them buzz cuts. But you're right Sir Labrador. Saving Private Ryan Online Encyclopedia confirms this

Also the standard german haircut wasn't a buzzcut. It should have been short on the sides and long on top

@sir Labrador: Yeah! I think about getting a German haircut sometimes, but then I always decide against it. I don't think it would look good on me

Thanks guys. Actually this was AFTER Cpl. Upham shot Steamboat Willie. You can see his boot at the bottom of the frame.

Thanks for the info, Albert! I'm starting to think about my German impression. I had my eyes set on the rightmost, the hero.

The tunic and cap can be made locally, unless you want hiki's stuff. Badges, belt and awards can come from Phil's militaria (Very affordable). Good dot pants are available from hiki shop or spearhead as is the belt. You can get the holster from Sonia. Ner makes really great German short boots. Nice choice. These troops are suposed to be from Das Reich. If you want the cuff title you can either buy from phils or there are a couple guys who ordered before who might not be pushing through with their impresions.
