For those interested in painting a faux/fake wood finish for your rifles/ stocks/ handguards.... 1) Start with any dark primer ( i used dark earth) 2) Spray a base coat of orange yellow / dark yellow spray paint  3) Using a large, coarse brush, dry brush burnt umber acrylic paint on top of the yellow, let dry. Use big strokes in one/parallel directions to simulate wood grain.  3) Using the same brush and paint, paint a very dilute layer on top of the "wood grain"  4) Using spray on acrylic wood stain, spray a very light layer to finish. You can spray some areas darker for weathering effect.  5) Finish with a layer of clear coat. Hope this helps...
