As you all probably have figured out, i'm totally clueless with U.S. equipment. So i'd like to know, Is there any piece of kit that survived the transition from early war (1941-42) to late war (43-45)? Also, more specifically, is there any equipment that would be common for say a philippine scout opposing the japanese invasion to a later war US army soldier?

Sure, lots did. The GI during WW2 wore basically the same items throughout. Some items changed in 1943 but earlier m1938 pattern gear and even some M1910 gear was used throughout WW2 until the end. It's easier to say what was introduced late so as not to wear it for an earlier impression. Just about everything worn by the scout in 42 was worn later except maybe the M1917A1 helmet and M1903 bayonet and scabard. But, even the bayonet was shortened and used.
