German Helmet Decals... These came from "At the Front Militaria". Never used them as I don't want to put repro decals on my German helmets. I've had these for several years now.

have you sampled it on any metal surface? is the decal film good enough to settle on the steel? or if your going to use that do you still need a decal softner?

No, I haven't sampled them on anything, sorry. However, these are the same decals that "At the Front" uses on the their helmets so I'm pretty sure they are OK or "At the Front" wouldn't sell them. German helmets had a coat of laquer applied under the decals, which made the decals durable and difficult to remove. I could be wrong here, but I don't think German helmet decals had any kind of adhesive. They were stuck on with laquer. On a lot of German helmets you will notice that the decals look kinda yellowish/ gold from the laquer and the decal changing color over time. On one of my Heer helmets, the white stripe in the national colors shield doesn't look white at all anymore. On some Heer helmets, the silver eagle looks more like gold, making the decal look more like it's Kriegsmarine than Heer. There are also re-issues... I have seen and handled some of those. A Luftwaffe helmet that was simply painted over and the Heer decal applied over it. The Luftwaffe decal was not removed and could be faintly seen under the paint. Re-issues aren't exactly rare. Are you guys familiar with Manion's Auction House? They auction off lots of different helmets, not only German. I have seen them auctioning off whole sheets of original German helmet decals. What I mean...
