Where can I get a repro canteen? Are there shops in HK that sell this item?
Any idea if I can convert the EG canteen to look like WW2?

The german canteen is tough to find...and expensive. Just the repro cups cost around 15-20usd already. You coud try looking for lookalikes like my czech canteen which i got for 5usd only. My brother is in berlin and is trying to find one for me. But even there it's hard to find and expensive.

There are no repros made anywhere, just recondition old or post war ones and they cost a penny or two. In Hong Kong they sell for HK1200 for a good one and about HK$800 for re cheapo one. One-zero and I are trying to figure out how to make some inexpensive ones too. Fortunatly I have one to copy. Unfortunatly until then your only hope is build one from repro parts like cover, cup and strap and buiy an original flask

ok lets see if we get the cheapest East german canteen - 10-20 USD then buy the felt cover 10-20 USD then buy the cup, another 10-15 USD and let say add a canteen leather strap 8-12 USD
each item add up for the shipping fee..... hmmmm i think its much better to get the whole thing but will cost alot (aside for its rareness) only w/o the hassle of buying every single piece.
just my 2 cents

Sir Octacon, I know what you mean and I also considered that option.
Well, my plan of conversion is not to be the real copy...we can find ways here. ;D We have our Leche Plan aluminum cups, Divisoria for the cover and Marilina for the leather straps.
