We the BNK group was requested to do a reenactment for the 140th aniversary execution of FR. Burgos By the Ilocos Heritage they are very dedicated on ilocos history and heritage, Glad to have such group that exist in this island.
We did two identical sets of reenactment in one day, First at Burgos town in the morning a one hour drive from Vigan then in the afternoon Vigan. Thanks to Richard Haw for some of the great shots.
The group, Fronting the centuries-old church nestled atop a hill at the town proper of Sta. Maria was used as a fortress during the 1986 Revolution.

A Jesuit priest convincing a Spanish authority about the three Filipino priest (Gomez, Burgos and Zamora) that should be eliminated due to collaboration with the enemy.
Now a final meeting that lead to the Execution by Garrote (Guillotine). A tribunal amid a list of drummed up charges and false witnesses, and where their own lawyers betrayed them to the court.

Colonel gives the command to the Major to arrest Fr. Burgos

An officer on his way for the arrest

The hunt begins

Fr. Burgos arrest

Fr. Burgos escorted to his sentence

Dax presenting the Garrote specially made for this event using vintage wood

… now its Fr. Burgos turn
Note the house on the back ground its Burgos residents the actual execution happened at Bagumbayan field (now Luneta Park) . February 17, 1872

Finally his plan succeeded

Before and after the executioner ask forgiveness to Fr Burgos, a job that he must do or else….. Burgos's execution - along with Gómez's and Zamora's - deeply affected José, who was inspired to write his second novel, El Filibusterismo.
