feldgrau uniform meet up and shoot anyone? big break coming up! I'd like this! My one problem is that i think i'm the only one with heer insignia. And i really like heer insignia. But out of peer pressure i'll be going SS as well. So my dilemma is: should i replace my heer insignia or have another tunic made for SS...hehe.

Hi jimi,
The heer tunic should have 6 buttons while the ss tunic has 5 down the front. That's the basic difference. You could do 4th SS polizei division pre 1944. they wore police type litzen with SS sleeve eagles.
Mixed kampfgruppen were a salient point of German units towards the end of the war. As a matter of fact, during the arnhem operation, the germans were so hard-pressed for personnel that there were mixed Heer, W-SS, Lufwaffe fliegerhorst, tankless armor crews and kriegmarine!!!! operating in the same area. In the 12 SS Pz Div, hitlerjugend, one of their best units (the engineer battalion i think) was commanded by Otto Toll, a wehrmacht captain on loan. So while you may not see it very often in pictures, there were many instances of mixed units.
Part of the German's unique ability was the authorization of field commands to organize units as they saw fit so that an operational objective could be achieved. that is the very concept of the kampfgruppe. I'll look fr some pics and post them if you like.

According to At the Front.com (which seems very accurate on these things), the SS did use Heer six-button tunics. So I guess it's okay to switch insignia, sir ;D

I stand corrected. Looking through my references, yes, the SS didn't have enough of their own to go around. Hey mikevictor, how's your feldgrau outfit?

Couldn't pick it up today. The tailor's only available at 1 pm I think, but I have to go to school soon. I can get it probably tomorrow or next week. Darn.

I got my M36 a while ago... It's really nice! He included an Iron Cross 2nd class ribbon and got better looking buttons! Now I just need the heer insignia.
He's also making feldmutze now for 300 pesos (he showed me a while ago). You have to get insignia from other sources though, cause he doesn't make any.

Met with your tailor today. i think 4 of us took the plunge and had tunics made. But not M36. We opted for late war M43s i think, with the square pockets and feldgrau collar.
