Went to the "El Rastro" flea market in Madrid, Spain, this morning. This particular flea market is held every Sunday, and is considered one of the world's largest. Several vendors specialized in militaria and had booths set up. Militaria was from several different countries, from different eras. I saw restored original German helmet shells being sold for 63 Euro. I got quite a bit of stuff, as prices were generally on the "low" side but mostly Spanish stuff. I would say that the highlight of my "shopping" is a 1940's Spanish Colonel's uniform jacket, with rank. Who knows how many anti-Franco dissidents this Colonel would have had put to death... It is in excellent condition, and very wearable (If the uniform is not wearable or faded or moth-eaten I won't buy it, even if it's rare, as I can't do anthing with it anyway. It has to be in good condition). I wear/ use even the original WW2 era uniforms/ gear that I have in my collection, so of course these have to be in good condition. In a shop two days ago I saw a complete Spanish "Blue" Division uniform (they fought with the Germans in WW2). It had a helmet, complete insignia on the uniform, papers, the works. it was also outrageously expensive. These are also incredibly rare... Anyway, some pics from today's flea market...

That's breathtaking, darktide. I'd betotally at a loss as to what to look for in a place like that. I'd probably just stand there with a silly grin on my face.

Dan San, East German uniforms/ gear was super cheap! Yes, even I was going crazy! I wanted to buy so much but I had to control myself and take it easy because of the excess weight/ baggage thing on my flight back to Manila...
The pics I posted are of stalls that specifically specialized in militaria. There were several vendors that would be selling home decor items that would also have some militaria items for sale. I got my 1940's Spanish Colonel's uniform jacket from such a vendor.
Most of you guys would have gone nuts here!

Kalbs, that's a good word to describe the way I felt! In El Rastro I was like a kid in a candy store. I bought so much stuff it's a good thing my wife didn't kill me (well, she was shopping like crazy as well). They had so many different uniforms and gear, a lot of which I had never seen before. If you ever get the chance, you must check out El Rastro! Along Calle Mayor in Madrid a lot of the stores that were selling old coins also had metal military badges for sale. Lots of German WW2 ones.

Hi Dan San! I'm in Italy right now so I'll see if I can get those items here. If I had known earlier East German uniforms/ gear were super cheap and plentiful at "La Rastro" in Madrid. If I am not mistaken, of all the military surplus gear being sold East German stuff was the cheapest. In fact, I did get a East German/ NVA patrol/ field cap for myself, in rain pattern camo. I'll look around
