Hey guys, as I was going through the forums, I realized (no surprises here) that a considerable amount of people are going for WW2 US Airborne Impressions, specifically 506th PIR 101st ABN. I thought maybe this deserved a thread. A way to unite and share our new finds! First off, I'd like to introduce myself: my name's Noel, and I'm gunning for four ABN impressions. Yes, at the same time. I figured it would be cheaper to expand laterally (within divisions) rather than between armies, if not between branches. Also because I have three nephews who are all doing ABN and who are basically sharing kits with me. My target impressions are: - SMG Gunner, E Coy, 506 PIR, 101st ABN - Normandy - Captured STG 44 Gunner, Pathfinder, 506th PIR, 101st ABN - Normandy - M1 Rifleman, E Coy, 506th PIR, 101st ABN - Nijmegen (M43 Jumpsuit) - SMG Gunner, 505th, 82nd ABN - Normandy Getting a medic helmet + medic brassard + medic kits would also allow a 5th Impression: - Medic, 505th/506th, 82nd/101st ABN - Normandy/Nijmegen Last week, I just got the following: - One (1) M1942 Reinforced Jumpsuit (Junrey) - One (1) Par of Jump Boots (Mang Ner Lorenzo) - Horsehide Riding Gloves (atthefront.com) - Felt Shoulder Pads (atthefront.com) [not pictured] - M1C 506th Helmet with 1/2" Net, First Aid Kit, & Leather Chin Strap, WW2 Parts (atthefront.com)

Just a heads up, i don't think the 506th used the invasion flags. The 82nd did though. Correct me if i'm wrong.

hi im airborne fan myself I just completed my airborne outfit today. just to make sure no foul on my attire. I prefered the 82nd airborne because im sure they wore the 48 stars u.s. flag during normandy and they were the first one who jumped during the invasion minus h hour.

I have seen several pics of paratroopers that had no divisional insignia at all and the invasion flag was on the left sleeve, not the right. Based on some articles and captions in photographs, I believe it was on the left during the early part of the war.

Where the confusion comes from are there are a few photos showing 101AB with 82nd troopers together in Normandy showing the 101 patch is shown on one trooper and the flag on the other trooper. The other confusion comes from that the flag was worn for Operation Market Garden but generally removed soon after landing. This mistake has been carried over and over in toys, models and books.

Ahh too right mate. Thanks for shining some light on that one. Good thing I was planning on an 82nd trooper impression then. I'll just hold on to the rest should anyone be interested. Cheers!
