Very nice albert! You got the sag effect on the tracks of the tanks down pat. were they standard tracks or model kasten? The figures look stunning (particularly the ss-man with the mp40). nice washes and weathering job.did you use tamiya paints? looks like you used oils yata. surprisingly, the paints manufactured by games workshop give a thick even finish if you haven't tried them yet. the inks they sell are also good for weathering.

hey bob, base coat tamiya acrylic. oversprayed with hair spray and then white. quickly melted the hairspray down with warm water on a brush to create the distressed faded effect. Gloss coated the whole model to protect the finish then washed with diluted burnt sienna oil paint followed by a fine pin wash of diluted black oil paint. dilute with lighter fluid, then wipe away excess with lighter fluid on a q-tip. After the wash, sprayed the model with humbrol matte coat. next weathering step was ground pastels in various earth tones diluted with tamiya acrylic thinner to create smudged, caked dirt. paint chips were added with a 000 brush dipped in red brown pastel chalk and black paint. Metal surfaces were then worked over first with sanded graphite from a fine brush, then the same graphite pencil was rubbed along all exposed metal surfaces. Rust effects were done as well with various shades of pastel chalk diluted in tamiya acrylic thinner then wiped down with a q tip as well.
Always wanted to try games workshop paint. should make figure painting much easier than acrylic and then oils.

Looking at the tow cables on that Tiger II, they must have been huge. I couldn't imagine what it was like hooking one up on a tow cleat. It brought back a memory from the past though; wollowing in mud at Fort Riley,KS helping a mech team hook up a high centerd M113 to a recovery vehicle and those cables were really heavy but nothing like those on that Tiger.

I have been judging on model shows for more or less 20yrs but your german figure has a different aura, i think having and putting on your 1:1 uniform and gears really come in handy with your modeling skills.

Wow, thanks for the tips. lighter fluid eh? should try this. i've heard that whethering with a graphite pencil and pastel chalks really work. but then do you spray a fixative on your model afterwards? all that stuff will tend to come off when the model is handled otherwise

nope. no fixative. It just blows the stuff away and reduces the gritty effect of the pastels. it's the acrylic thinner that holds it in place. I can do a demo if you like.

Wow. Amazing work, Albert! So this is what you were taking photos of when I dropped by your place and interrupted you. Hahaha
True enough, I was expected a woman (model).

Sorry guys, not that kind of model. Finally got around to finishing my Porsche turreted king tiger. Anneliese of Schwere Pz Abteilung 503 was one of the original 50 porsche turreted king tigers that re-joined the Abteilung during the last german offensive of the war around Lake balaton in Hungary, spring 1945. Schw Pz Abt 503 ended the war with the highest score of any of the heavy Tiger Battailionen. 1,700 enemy tanks in 4 years of hard fighting on the eastern front and in france. The kit is the Dragon kit with molded on zimmerit built with all the photo etched accessories included in the box.It was painted in the standard 3 color german scheme then covered in a winter coat of white over hairspray, which was rubbed off with hot water. Also managed to finish the jagdpanther i posted a few months back. It's painted up as a vehicle of Schwere Jagdpanzer Abteilung 654, which saw action in Normandy. The zimmerit was applied using acrylic artists paste scribed with a scribing tool on a pre drawn series of lines. The stowage was revised as per 654's unique system. All the tools were moved to the rear of the vehicle. And here's a 1/16th tamiya model of my favorite impression dot 44 with mp 40 lastly, a 1/16th scale dragon FJ trooper . Actually i came to this hobby by way of scle modelling when i met Panzerfront. Thanks man! If your ever in the UK, you are more than welcome to join us making some models, specially Dave he is into scale models big time! He has got models, at least 25-30 years old. My friend Rob would love your King Tiger.
