Hi! I've finally started my MG42 project. Kalbs pointed me to john-tom.com where i found some great plans. After some tweaking and adjusting to make it a little more realistic, i had the plans printed in full scale. I've decided to build it using cardboard... Just kidding. I'm making cardboard mockups to give to my sheet steel worker (same guys who fabricated my ppsh parts). Some differences with the john-tom plans: 1) Barrel shroud and receiver will be one piece instead of separate 2) In the real MG42, the side panels of the barrel shroud do not taper as much as shown in the plans. I've made adjustments to correct this. 3) I've also enlarged the holes in the barrel shroud. Will update as i go along...

This is exciting as usual. Sort of like the TV show 24... Doc always leave me in suspense and waiting for entertainment.

@ kalbs - this will be a long slow build as a lot of the parts are still in limbo. I hope to assemble by December. Well, my PPSH build took about 2 months to build as well. I wonder if the china MG42 will come out before or after i finish. labrador - Apparently the expensive stuff were the small parts like the barrel change door, charging handle, sights etc. I got the price down to half by having them just make the barrel shroud, receiver, and top cover. I'll fabricate the rest myself or use surplus realsteel parts. @yes, i was real bored until i got this starting. Weird things? Do you mean the "Busty Babes" as my wife calls 'em?

Well, you know what they say...if you build it...(also applies to difficult scratchbuilds in scale modelling).

So here's an update: Called up the metal fabricator, the aluminum booster cone will be done this week, steel receiver and top cover in a week or two. My yugo basket drum is ready for pick up at the post office, I've won a bipod and feed tray on ebay, and i've ordered RS sights and a cocking lever online. To summarize: Cash out....almost 20K. Parts in: just the gearbox so far. So in short, all my parts are floating in limbo and i'm praying real hard that all that cash materializes into the parts i need soon.

If this is successful, you may want to consider making a second one and selling it (to me) hahaha
