Friends; I have a photo of US landing in Leyte & also saw in a photo a Filipino Guerilla wearing a US Duck Pattern Camouflage. The US wearing them have different pockets (with pocket cover & 2 bottons each) with the USMC since there is no USMC mark on the pocket, thus I believe these US soldiers with Mac Arthur are not Marines, but Army. My questions are : 1. What was the US Unit in the Philippines that wore this Duck Camo? 2. Did any Filipino soldier by blood belong on the US unit in the Philippines during the Liberation that wore this Duck pattern camo? 3. Did the Filipino 1st & 2nd Reg. of the US Army who fought here in the Phil. liberation somehow wore this camo? thanks; Perry Attachments:

Looks like the Army HBT Camo. Do you have a clearer picture so we could look at the pocket design/patter?

I'm going to say they are Marines based on the fact that the one in the center that his canteen does not have U.S. stamped on it and the one far left his camo HBT doesn't have chest pockets. A clearer picture would be nice.

Here's a higher res version: (click for bigger) ------- Just guessing here but navy ships have marine detachments on board. It's possible that these were marines "helping out."

Alamo Scouts & Marine Raiders, Marines 2. No evidence of this. From what I've seen the Filipino 1st Regiment were actually poorly equiped. even though they were a US Army Regiment. 3. No evidence of this. The only photos I've seen with Filipino's wearing Duck pattern Camo comes post war and used within the Constabulary forces and it really wasn't duck hunter but Sears Produced “BEO Gam” pattern which is similar. The Philippines were not to my knowlege ever officially issued Duck Hunter Camo HBT's in the Military.

Look at the guy (not wearing camo) at the bottom right corner of the photo. The scabbard of his knife looks like the marine issue. If they are from the same unit, my wild guess is that they are all marines

He could be Navy Pumba. I'm starting to think SEABEE's or a Navy engineer group with a marine Guard since they seem to be constructing or repairing the beach

My father confirmed to me that he had a camo suit with USMC stencilled on the chest, given to him by my grandfather, who in turn received stocks it from a GI in 1944 in Ilocos. There were Marine units assigned to guard ships during the Lingayen gulf landings and the later landing to support USAFFE guerillas at Bessang Pass.
The last I remember of that stock was a jungle backpack in duck hunter camo, used by my cousin until 1994. None remains of that stuff now.

Perry just posted a pic in pinoy history last week with what look to be men in duck hunter pattern on US GI jeeps but with PI license plates. The mystery deepens...
