Heres How to convert a OD/Green M1 strap to Khaki. all you need is a bleach or Zonrox and a bowl for the strap to be submerge totally. Mix zonrox with water, ration is one glass of water and 1/4 of zonrox, mix it together then submerge the strap one at a time, observe closely you can see the green disappear and change to a mustard tone, once all green are gone remove it and rinse on a running water, a thin green thread on the side edge will still remain unbleached that's fine it could be a nylon thread. never soak it overnight , i was inform that zonrox make the cloth weaker. then let it dry. Note; always experiment on a small piece first to see the reaction, color change may vary depending on the material used. before and after the mustard tone is too off for a khaki so i brushed it with a diluted Gunze lacquer base paint khaki mix with a little black to have the used effect. comparison with the original khaki strap, from the top a) my bleach M1 strap, b) original strap from a front sim M1 helmet, c) original strap M1917A1 Dough boy helmet or Bataan helmet.
