The goal: So i can do this impression ... The inspiration...again Gryphon at WW2aa built his nagant out of a bar10, some scrap wood, and stuff in his work shop with hand tools. No original mosin parts were used. Top is the real thing, middle is his conversion, bottom is the bar10: Again, i decided to use Sintra instead of wood... Here's what i have so far... Will update as i go. BTW, do any of you have a spare mp5 front sight lying around?

Over the weekend, my wife and I went to Palm Springs. We went to a Big 5 Sportmart to buy some swim goggles. I went to the gun section and they had a real Mosin-Nagant rifle there for sale for $99. I was tempted to buy it but I don't want to start a Russian impression. I'll just look forward to seeing yours and Kalbs' impressions.

Yeah, real mosins can be real cheap in the US. Too bad it's impossible to get one from here. @ Kalbs, i used the JG Bar10 Some updates: Continued work on the stock. Screwed the magazine in place, shaped the stock with the dremel, more sanding and filling with epoxy...

$99.00? Sold! What B20 was really saying is "... I was with my wife" wink... wink.. You sure can read between the lines! Actually, I am trying to convince myself that I don't want to do a WWII Russian impression. I'm winning so far.

B20, you should do Russian. It's not too expensive if you go with the China uniforms.

More sanding, applied bondo to smoothen out the handguard, attached an AK rear sight. I used folded sheet aluminum for the barrel bands and screwed them in place.

Awesome! Yes please keep the pictures coming.
B20, at $99 they already have quite a profit on it. I see it at gun shows for $79.

Doc, what did you use to extend the outer barrel? Do you have a suggested parts list?

Oh yeah, here's the parts list...
1)JG Bar10 or TM VSR10 (not the Gspec) 2) AK rear sight 3) AK outerbarrel (serves as barrel extension) 4) Sintra board (or wood) 5) Bondo 6) Epoxy clay 7) MP5 front sight (still in the mail)

The stock bands are made of thin aluminium sheet (from a baking tray), folded, rolled, and screwed in place. Almost done... I had a difficult time painting the Bar10 stock. You have to sand the rubber coating completely away before painting. The coating (especially partially sanded) is a really bad base for paint. As i discovered the hard way. I'm just waiting for the MP5 front sight to complete it, then finish the paint job. I need help with the side mount though. Original side mounts and scopes on ebay are very expensive....maybe i'll just try to have one fabricated. I do have a few months more of gun ban before i need to use it anyway. Do you guys know anyone who can fabricate a PU scope for me?

Maybe convert the knobs on an M16 4x22 scope. That would look okay. I think Marui and a few other companies make replicas to.
