Hi Troops,
I just wanted to see if our taste in movies are in the money. Nothing beats a couch potato week ender. If you have WW2 movies in mind, please post them here.
Here are some movies that I have watched or just going to watch in the coming week end:
Downfall (Der Untergang) (2004) – Bruno Ganz Director – Oliver Hirschbiegel
Die Bruecke (The Bridge) 1961 – Director: Bernhard Wicki
Come and See (1985) – Director: Elem Klimov
The Winter War (Talvisota) – Director: Pekka Parikka
Das Boot (The Boat) 1981 – Directed: Wolfgang Petersen
Cross of Iron (1977) - Directed: Sam Peckinpah
Dead Snow (2009) – Tommy Wirkola (not really WW2, but the zombies are cool) ;D
Cheers

I liked downfall mainly for the reference re gear and weapons. But there was a severe lack of action. Cross of iron is a fun movie to watch. Lots of action, great reference for gear (except for the 70's haircuts), and James Coburn is just such a badA$$. Also try to watch Stalingrad and Saints and Soldiers for your ETO needs.

Sir, I'm not OC or anything, but I think you meant "Best World War II Film" because genre when it pertains to films means the different categories of movies (such as War, Romance or Action). So, War is our genre and World War II our sub-genre, if you may, in this thread. Anyway... The best World War 2 films, I believe, are: Saving Private Ryan (Hey, if it made veterans cry, it's gotta be a good movie) When Trumpets Fade (The final scene and credits actually struck me so much that I wrote a short story based on them. Maybe I'll share it some other time with you guys Cross of Iron ("I'll show you how a Prussian officer fights." "And I'll show you where the Iron Crosses grow." Epic lines!) The Longest Day (mostly because it's about D-Day, one of my, and apparently, almost everybody's favorite events of the war) Bridge on the River Kwai (Alec Guinness is the best!) Kelly's Heroes (the action was okay, but the comedy made it better. Also, imagine around 20 men and 1 Sherman, taking on 30-40 Germans and three (yes, three) Tiger tanks, and suffering only several wounded!) A Bridge Too Far (Brig. Sosabowski (Gene Hackman) gave some immortal quotes here. And any movie with Hackman, Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Robert Redford and Anthony Hopkins ought to be great!) (List is still incomplete. There are so much war movies that I like and I don't think that anyone would want to read a post that long

Adding on: Back to Bataan (1945) Has anyone seen The Inglorious Bastards (1978)? Is this good?

@ jnmodeller
Yup, 'COMBAT' was my favourite TV show when I was a kid.
@ kalbs Die Bruecke (The Bridge) was really awesome. Imagine kids defending a bridge that was not even a notable objective.
