Fil-Am Friendship Day is coming up July 4, gentlemen. I was at Romulo Cafe a couple of weeks back and I was surprised to find out the theme for the restaurant was CPR himself. The place was airy and had several function rooms for 10 0r 20 people. There were photographs of historical figures all over the walls circa WW2. Gen. Douglas, Gen. Wainwright, Pres. Osmena and of course Col. Carlos P. Romulo. CPR's 'I Am Filipino' essay is prominently displayed in its entirety on the wall of the stairs landing between the first and second floors. I later found out the place is owned by CPR's nephew, which explains things. That got me thinking: how a 'bout reserving a function room for lunch on July 3 or dinner on July 4 and going as USAFFE? Rates for weekends are P5000 for the 10 person function room and P10000 for the 20 seater. Weekday rates are P500 less. All rates are consumable. That averages more or less P500 per person. Who's in? If we push through, I'll do the reservations but we need the list at least 3 days ahead. If we bring our family, maybe we should dress them in Filipiniana or USAFFE nurses as well. What do you think?
1. Medic- either Sunday lunch or Monday dinner is good.

BTW, the restaurant is on Dr. Sct. Lazcano St. in Quezon City. As for the food, it's OK. I tried the white bihon (egg noodles with shrimp with an olive oil dressing) and their baby garlic squid, plus the caldereta. We liked it! I'll see if we can arrange for set meals for a group so we don't have the problem of ordering individually. Maybe corkage for drinks should be inquired into as well.

Hey Guys,
Great discover medic! Please do have a commemoration dinner in class A. And hopefully it can be possible for future meetings, and if they have equipment for presentations. Would any be able take pictures of the place? The way you described the theme really want to see it too.
Thanks for posting this medic!

Period Camera! Great idea and possibilities for a period backdrop for photoshoots? As we have the Commonwealth flag as a prop too.

Who has the Commonwealth flag? First off, we have to decide whether it's a Sunday lunch or Monday dinner. I personally think we can linger longer if it's Sunday lunch. Spouses welcome, but try to dress in period.

This just in- we might be able to get TV coverage, either ABC or ABS-CBN. Plus! There's a possible invitation to grace the opening of CASA ROCES, a renovated ancestral house turned restaurant near Malacanang! I think the theme there is pre-war. Just right for Philippine Scouts!

Attention Dead Soldier's Society: Fil-Am Friendship Day dinner is set for July 4, Monday, 7 pm at Romulo Cafe on 32 Dr. Lazcano cor. Sct. Tuason Tomas Morato QC. Come as Philippine Scout or USAFFE. Class A uniform adviseable if you have it. You may bring guests, but please dress them in period costumes (Civilian dress for guests OK as long as it's as close to period as possible). As of this writing (and Albert's text brigade), we are more than 10 but less than 20. If we can't muster 20 people I will have our venue shifted to the main dining area. Please budget approximately P500 per person. I will recon the place later and post updates. This will be a blast!

Gentlemen, I was there this evening for dinner. At 6. On a Tuesday. And the place was packed. We need to consider several things asap: 1. At this writing, we have a head count of about 12-13 adults. I am not counting my 2 small children that will be with me. We are too big a group for the 10 seater function room but not enough for the 20 seater function room. 2. My patient who works for ABC wants me to text them the details of the event, for their news crew. However, the manager said they will allow news crews only if we have a private function. That means that if we settle for the public dining room, we can't invite a news crew to cover us. I need to confirm with them by Friday. 3. If we settle for the main dining room, we have to share it with other guests. The dining areas seat 50-60 people. Tonight, there were 2 -3 groups of 10 people with us there. It was very noisy, to say the least. Actually it was too noisy for my taste. 4. If we want to play period music, say, big band as per Albert's suggestion, we can bring an MP3 player, use small speakers, and play it inside the function room. Music at the restaurant is centralized; we cannot impose our music for the entire restaurant.
ERGO; things to decide: 1. Do we reserve a private function room for our event? 20 seater function rooms cost P10,000 consumable. I talked to the manager and he said if we are a group of 15 people only, 10K will leave us with a LOT of take home. However, it would probably be possible to consume the amount, but we might need to increase our budget per head a bit. 2. Inviting a news crew means we probably would need to feed them. I have to ask how many the ABC station will send over. But is it OK with the group to shoulder the expense of media coverage? 3. Do we settle for the privacy of a function room as opposed to the chaos (my term) of the public dining room? There might be additional expense per person; do you think it's worth it? I'll ask Albert to send out a text brigade tomorrow, as I need to confirm with the manager by tomorrow evening or Thursday morning at the very latest.

My views on the matter:
A private room would be preferable. If it won't be fun,i.e. Noisy and with the public staring i'd rather not do it.
At 10,000 for 15 people, that'll make it 666 plus plus per head. It might be a bit steep for those attending.
If the press is a problem for the restaurant it might be a problem.
I will try to manage phone brigade tomorrow but it'll be in a middle of a shoot so those who can answer here, i beseech you, please please please do.
solution? er...merienda?
