Hey all. This is the beginning of the Airsoft Arisaka Project. Thanks to Toyman, we have a real rifle to base copies off of. We've all seen the great detail of the dummy rifles cast from his original. Now to turn this thing into airsoft. But i'll need some help though.
I haven't actually started doing any physical work on this but have been brainstorming for a long time. And now that i have Toym's dummy rifle on hand, i now have a better idea of how to build this.
But here's the thing...i don't do Japanese impressions nor will i in the future, i think. So i'm doing this mainly for Japanese impressionists and the group as a whole. Nor will i/we be able to make money off of this because, let's face it, WW2 airsoft is a small niche locally and we cannot ship these internationally. So basically, what i'm asking is...who is actually interested in getting one of these, if made?
But wait, before you decide:
Here are some of the compromises that i can foresee:
1) Receiver and some details will not be the same as original
2) Rear sight will probably be made of resin and will not be adjustable. Also, because of the inherent design of the donor airsoft rifles, it will sit higher than normal and so one will have to aim lower to compensate
3) Airsoft magazine may sit lower than normal (protrude underneath the stock) because the arisaka stock is really tiny. Unless the stock is modified to be a bit fatter.
4) The stock will ideally be made of wood or high strength fiberglass
5) Metal parts to be fabricated (via machine shop or casting): barrel bands, bayonet lug, front sight, butt plate, bolt handle, bolt safety knob
6) Depending on the donor rifle, stock internals may not last that long and an expensive upgrade is recommended somewhere down the line
This build will cost an estimated 10-12k for a whole rifle...but we'll try to design it as a kit...at an estimated price of around 5-7K. Ofcourse these are just estimates and cost may go up or down.
So given these conditions, will there be any takers?
Also, i currently do not have enough to buy a donor rifle, maybe one of you has a springer sniper rifle you can donate to the cause? It doesn't necessarily have to be in perfect working condition...preferably one of the ff in decreasing preference:
JG Bar10 pro> JG Bar10G> Well MB03> AGM MP001> Snow wolf M24> KS M24. I'll build it for free and we can jointly own the prototype. Like investors.
So, who'd be interested in getting a WW2aaa Arisaka?
